Police in Saskatoon say they have fielded 100 calls about a telephone scam that has been making the rounds. The reports led police to issue a warning about a telephone fraud. In the scam, a caller claims that taxes are owed and uses threatening or aggressive language to frighten people into paying a fictitious debt. The caller demands payment by credit card or money transfer, police said. But it is all a hoax. Police provided the following advice: "If you should receive a call similar in nature, the SPS recommends hanging up and reporting the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If you are a victim of fraud, please file a report with the Saskatoon Police. The Canada Revenue Agency has also issued a statement advising people that the call is a hoax. more
