Everyone is interested in computing speed, an often overlooked potential bottleneck is your hard-drives and external/portable storage devices. The hard drives are manufactured to certain read/write speeds and some unfortunately are painfully slow when it comes to input output, the net result translates in a perceived slowness of the computer CPU... sometimes a bum rap. With a "slow" hard-drive in the mix, it could well be your processor is snoozing waiting for the drive to catch up. This can also affect your LAN data transfer speeds making them seem slow.. the router takes the blame in this case. If you want to see how fast your drives are reading and writing this handy little utility can give some insight - its free and easy to use. Select the connected drive and test. DrvTest
