Try re-starting it! How often have you had that advice?
It is true that restating the system can reset things, especially a "cold boot" a complete shut down instead of a restart. But while you are at it doing a couple of extra simple things can add braces to the belt.
Windows system.
Before shutting down invoke the SFC (System File Check) mojo. SFC runs for a few minutes and verifies that all the operating system files are good to go. It will refresh wonky ones if it finds them or at least produces a report of the ones it cannot. Some clues at least for later.
To run SFC
- Start - All programs - Accessories - Command prompt (run this as administrator)
At the prompt type sfc /scannow then enter.
If all is well the scan will begin, if it will not scan then there is more to do.
When the scan ends make note of the result message. If it found no issues good. Close the command prompt box and shut down.
The other "extra" todo, once it is shut down, unplug the power cord and press and hold the start button for about 30 seconds. Plug back in then restart the unit.
This is reboot with the trimmings.
