As time goes along you have probably downloaded applications which as they install present the opportunity to also install other stuff... mainly browser bars of various kinds. They often make it hard to see the choices, or make it confusing about selecting them and well, if you are quick fingered you may have gone on to the accept button without realizing you just gave permission to install all sorts of unwanted crapware. It is a good idea to read before accepting, especially with "free" stuff. After a while you may have so many browser help bars they occupy the top third of your browser screen - tool bar clutter is annoying and confusing. You can turn them off so they don't appear, or better yet uninstall them completely using your uninstall program utility. They are usually easy enough to spot in the installed program lists since they usually call themselves tool bars. Always create a system restore point before doing the house cleaning though, just in case you do trash something you wanted to keep.
