I had a recent experience with a relatives laptop, at the end of day it turned out the battery was shot and so were our nerves when we priced them out.
Chances are none of the obvious places carries them anyway, it looks like an order in thing AND what if after-all it was not the battery, the big box is unlikely to let you try before you put down the green. Short of finding someone with a matching unit it can be tough to nail down.
Sticker shock also, some batteries cost about 30% or more of replacement for the entire unit, I suppose that is what they hope, toss the old machine and buy another.
Fact is, if a person could pick up a fresh one for about $60 and get another couple of years out of the unit, us on fixed income at least would do that.
I did find a place fairly local - 40 minutes drive.
a) they had it for the model.
b) it didn't bust the bank
c) it had one year written warranty
d) the folks were nice
c) they went the extra step and insisted we try the unit with the battery to make sure it was indeed the issue and that charging and everything worked.
Been a while since I enjoyed the approach, cheers small business.
Consideration.
- the battery pack was obviously not original manufacture.
- the cells inside were probably china wholesale.
- it was packed and packaged properly though, crisp and clean.
The one year warranty (written) off-set my concerns when weighed with the alternative options, you could throw 1 of these in annually over the life of the unit and still feel ok about it. Most laptop units don't need to be junked before their time.
I just like options I guess. Drop me a line if you want more info.
